Gary Lezak

Gary is the Chief Meteorologist at KSHB-TV, the NBC affiliate in Kansas City and co-owner of LRCWeather. He has been interested in weather since his first memories as a child. He has a tremendous weather passion that has lead to the discovery of the LRC (Lezak’s Recurring Cycle). Growing up in Southern California Gary moved to Oklahoma to attend college. Gary achieved his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Meteorology from the University of Oklahoma in 1985.
Gary began his career as a television meteorologist moving to Kansas City in 1992; and loves the weather challenges that we face each day.
It was in the 1980s that Gary started noticing synoptic scale storm systems that looked similar to one other in how they formed (developed), moved, and fell apart. Quite simply a storm in December looked similar to others that formed later in the same season. It wasn’t just a storm system that seemed to “repeat” during a season, but the entire weather pattern. He thought this happened during the early fall. By the mid 1990’s he started keeping closer track of the upper level wind flow, and by the early 2000’s, Gary had discovered the LRC.You can hear Gary every morning on Newsradio 980 KMBZ, and watch him every night during the 5, 6, and 10 PM newscasts on NBC Action News delivering the most accurate forecast in Kansas City.
